School trips
School outings and trips have a quite specific educational, didactic and social value. They are school activities. They must therefore have a clear connection with the social, pedagogical and/or didactic objectives of teaching and be prepared and followed up in classroom activities. As far as possible they should be European in nature and should be organized across the different language sections in a school.
Pupils of S3 and S6 are obliged to go on school outings and trips. In special circumstances and for duly substantiated reasons this obligation may be waived.
– Secondary 3 –
The school trips have a clear relationship with the educational objectives and/or the teaching programme. They are organised with the view of allowing the students to practise their L2 or L3 languages in situ. The teachers have organised several 4-day trips to an L2/L3 speaking country. The students destination is based on their L2 or L3 language.
– Secondary 6 –
School trips are an essential aspect of training and multicultural education taught in European Schools. The proposed pedagogical framework makes students acquire new knowledge and a better understanding about foreign cultures as well as their own. Through this experience, students develop interpersonal skills including trust and respect. Reinforcing and enhancing the students sense of European solidarity.
School trips are organised accordingly to provide students educational situations outside of school and taking into account the diverse interests of students. The students can choose from different destinations.

The school trips are compulsory even if your child has to repeat the year.
From a pedagogical perspective, it is highly advisable that your child takes part in the trip. Frequently, students who are repeating the year find it difficult to integrate into the lower class. The school trips give students a break from the classroom situation and make socializing possible in a different setting, where it often works better.

As mentioned in the school rules and regulations, the school trips are compulsory and they have a clear relationship with the educational objectives and the teaching programme, especially in year 3.
If for one reason or another you do not want your child to participate, please contact Mrs Nielsen as soon as possible to avoid booking costs.

No. Every teacher has an official paper from the school, signed by the Director that allows your child to go abroad with the accompanying teachers. This form replaces the older forms which needed a stamp from the city-hall.

All students have to submit their forms and the parents have to make first payment according to the schedule. If you haven’t submitted your form in time, a destination is chosen for you. Each trip has a maximum and minimum number of participants. A healthy ratio of boys and girls is taken into consideration, and also the students from different sections are well combined within the restrictions set on school trips.

If you are not pleased with the destination, then you can contact Mrs Nielsen as soon as possible or in C314. Once the final lists of students are displayed and sent to the parents, tickets are being booked, reservations are being made and unfortunately you no longer have the option of changing your destination.

In case of difficulty in meeting the costs of the school trip, it is possible to approach the school for financial assistance. Please contact the Management of the school to explain your situation. You will be ask for proof of income and it will be decide whether you can get a total or partial refund from the school.
If you want to pay for the school trips in instalments spread throughout the year, please contact Mrs Nielsen. It is always possible to create a financial plan.

The school does not have a global cancellation insurance. However, the S3 & S6 compulsory school trips have cancellation insurance arranged by individual school trip. Depending on the particular cancellation insurance for the individual school trip taken, a small excess may be levied before the cancelation insurance pays out. Please note all cancellations insurances will need to have appropriate justification as to why a trip has been canceled. For more detailed information the individual trip organiser can provide you with a copy of the cancellation insurance policy issued for their trip, if required.

A copy of the student’s personal insurance policy must be given to the teacher in charge of the trip before they are allowed to go. Parents who work at the commission need a Certificate of medical insurance RCAM: PMO-RCAM-BRUATTESTATION@ec.europa.eu. Parents who are insured by the Belgian system need a copy of the form E111.
